After SKorean leader eyes North trip, Trump offers US invite

Moon's softer stance on North Korea could create friction with Washington, which has swung from threats of military action to hints of dialogue as it seeks to formulate a policy under President Donald Trump.

In light of recent protests against his ousted predecessor, President Park Geun-Hye, who faced impeachment over a massive corruption scandal, the South Korean population is in a state of unpreceded political agitation, Lee said. The system has angered Beijing, which says its powerful radars allow Washington to spy on its military operations.

Both leaders "agreed on close cooperation in resolving security concerns on the Korean peninsula including North Korea's nuclear ambitions", the Blue House said in a statement translated by AFP.

"If South Korea's national security and economy were damaged because of the THAAD, not because of the North Korea issue, then it's not really a rational situation", he said.

In his first speech after he was sworn in, Moon said he would immediately begin efforts to defuse security tensions on the Korean Peninsula and negotiate with Washington and Beijing to ease the THAAD row.

"I will also go to Beijing and Tokyo and even Pyongyang in the right circumstances".

Moon, who does not have the usual option of a two-month transition for incoming South Korean presidents, also announced a new head of national intelligence, local news service Money Today reported.

CNN suggests the Trump administration may need to work on its relationship with the new Moon administration since Trump officials who visited Seoul since January have largely avoided meeting with any of the candidates in South Korea's emergency presidential election.

We win and Tottenham win, they are always close. "Each time we win, they win, two years ago that was not the case". The Blues are four points ahead of the next challenger with four games left, three of them at home.

President Moon Jae-in's office says in a statement he made the remarks during a phone conversation Thursday with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

A television screen shows a news program reporting about North Korea's missile firing, at Seoul Train Station in Seoul, South Korea, March 6, 2017.

North Korea recently tested a ballistic missile and claims it is close to perfecting an intercontinental ballistic missile and nuclear warhead that could attack the USA mainland.

While taking the oath of office Wednesday, Moon said he's open to visiting North Korea under the right conditions.

North Korea has yet to comment on Moon's election.

He has been cautious about the recent decision to deploy a controversial US anti-missile system in South Korea.

The US missile defense system in South Korea is a major roadblock for the country as pressure from China, North Korea and the United States arise. The new President has so far proved hard to pin down on issues like the controversial US -made THAAD missile defense system deployment in South Korea, and has said he would like like to sign a peace treaty with the North. The problem between the country and China lies in the USA missile defense system in South Korea, which happens to be a threat to the Chinese military.

The issue has clouded efforts to rein in North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes, and also led to recriminations by Beijing against South Korean companies.
