ABC announces revival of 'American Idol' next season

It has been speculated that "American Idol" is set to return to screens in March 2018 in a Sunday evening time slot.

"But over its last few seasons - as it cycled through judges, and rival competition shows like "The Voice" slowed its momentum - the show's audience collapsed".

"American Idol" will be back on the air in the 2017-18 season, with a new home: ABC. Though the timing is maybe a little more than fortuitous, ABC (and Seacrest) are not showing all their cards about who from the original series might be involved, if anyone.

American Idol's new home on the Disney-owned ABC network comes a few years after the park closed its "American Idol Experience" attraction in Disney's Hollywood Studios. "We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams", said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. The series tallied 555 episodes across 15 seasons, all of which debuted on Fox, but flagging viewership in recent years warranted cancellation of the show. "American Idol" is back from the dead.

Of course, there are rumors that Ryan Seacrest will return as the host. Should Ryan Seacrest continue as host or should it be all brand new?

The show that dominated television in the 2000s and minted stars like Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson will be back sometime during the next TV season.

The show's host and judging panel hasn't been revealed yet, but Disney/ABC TV Group President Ben Sherwood is telling America to "get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever 'Idol'". "Do you know the preparation I have to do for [Live] every night?" First season victor Kelly Clarkson has also put her hand into country music over the years.

ABC is reportedly planning to announce further details of the "Idol" reboot to advertisers this month. "That said, Ryan has a lot of affection for 'Idol" given the significance to his career, and it taps into the things he loves - a live show, pop music, discovering new talent, etc".
