A Depressing Expression of Our Dystopian Future — McDonald's New Uniforms

The fast food giant issued a press release earlier this month announcing that gray uniforms will be available to staff at its 14,000 restaurants.

McDonald's insists that an internal survey showed that more than 70% of restaurant employees felt that the "new uniforms provide a modern image that they would be proud to wear", but people on the internet had a very different opinion.

As one Twitter user wrote, "I like the new McDonald's uniforms, but I'm a pretty bleak person myself".

Others say the attire looks like something out of the "The Hunger Games".

This is the first time McDonald's U.S. has tapped influential designers to design crew and manager uniforms.

Maybe it's the shiny, metallic-like color scheme, but it did drum up lots of doomsday scenarios straight out of Hollywood: "I feel like McDonald's is trying to warm us up to the idea of robotic workers".

Not all were turned off by the look, though: "I think they look cool". However, employees at McDonald's are not thrilled with what he came up with for them. Updating the restaurant uniforms is just one of the many ways McDonald's and its independent franchisees continue to focus on restaurant employees, the company also said in its release.

Without explaining how, the company says the outfits will "improve the restaurant experience".

Celebrity designers Bindu Rivas and Waraire Boswell-who have dressed everyone from Will Smith to Ryan Gosling-created the new looks, utilitarian black and gray garb that ranges from collared polo shirts to T-shirts and long-sleeved looks.

You can take a look at the uniforms here and decide for yourself.
