Malala receives highest UN honour to promote girls education

Pakistan's teenage Nobel Prize victor and children and girl's rights activist, Malala Yousafzai on Monday was named the youngest ever United Nations Messenger of Peace, with a special focus on girls' education.

In her new role with the U.N., Malala will continue to focus on girls' education, according to the BBC.

"You are not only a hero, but you are a very committed and generous person, and the person that has this fantastic quality..."

The same week Malala Yousafzai was named the youngest United Nations Messenger of Peace, the 19-year-old surprised the Midstate on Tuesday by speaking at McCaskey High School.

Malala in Canada: Malala Yousafzai will receive an honorary Canadian citizenship today, in recognition for her work on girls' education.

On October 9, 2012, as 15-year-old Malala rode a bus home from school with friends on their way home from school, a masked gunman boarded the bus and asked which girl was Malala.

In 2012 Ms Yousafzai was almost killed by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' rights to education. The youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient will focus especially on an issue particularly close to her heart - girls education.

Malala Yousafzai was born July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan, in the country's Swat Valley.

Yousafzai was given the Canadian flag from atop the Peace Tower at the entrance of parliament, and a copy of her 2013 book "I Am Malala" was added to the parliamentary library.

She said her father always told people not to ask him what he did for Malala, 'but ask what I didn't do - I didn't clip her wings'.

"And I realized that if you remain silent, you are still going to be terrorized". In 2012, she was herself shot in the head by a militant of the Taliban radical movement, outlawed in Russian Federation, for her human rights activities.

Malala said she faced a second challenging moment after the Taliban attack, which she doesn't remember, and woke up in a hospital in Birmingham, England.

"Her courageous activism for girls' education has already energized so many people around the world, " he said in a statement. "If you want to see your future bright, you have to start working now", she said.

"This irony didn't escape me: the fact that this kind of Islamic extremism, (which) takes the shape of anti-girl, anti-women rights in every possible way. also arrived that day", Ambrose said in an interview.

In Yousafzai's hometown of Swat, people hailed her new United Nations title.
