Cheerios give away over 1.5 billion seeds to save the bees

Since General Mills gave out the same seeds to customers across the country, it's possible that the wildflowers could become invasive species in certain areas.

"The flower varieties within the Bee Friendlier Mix were selected for their flowers which produce nectar and pollen that are attractive to bees and other pollinators", the company said. "With deteriorating colony health, pollinators everywhere have been disappearing by the millions".

Previous year the food company announced, by 2020, farms that grow oats for Cheerios will house approximately 3,300 total acres of dedicated pollinator habitat on 60,000 acres of land.

But what is new is the disappearance of Buzz the Bee, the beloved mascot for Honey Nut Cheerios. General Mills gave out 1.5 million wildflower seeds to customers in the hopes the seeds would get planted across the USA and help the declining bee population.

"The fruits and vegetables that form the basis of a good diet are at risk if we do not maintain healthy and stable bee populations", said Marla Spivak, a professor of entomology at the University of Minnesota and a bee specialist, in a statement.

Aston Martin launches AMR sub-brand
Powered by a 507PS development of Aston Martin Racing's GT4 race engine, the Vantage AMR Pro is the most powerful V8 Vantage ever. The first cars that are being confirmed to be made under this label will be Rapide AMR and Vantage AMR Pro concepts.

Lifehacker reports that several of the seed types are not native to the US, meaning they may not even be helpful for bees.

Experts say bees are a critical role in the human food supply driven away by habitat loss, disease and a small population size.

The brand will also be on hand at the Canada Blooms festival, handing out 50,000 Veseys wildflower seed packs to visitors. "By taking the bold step of removing a well-established brand symbol from its packaging, General Mills is further challenging marketing's conventional thinking to underscore its point".

They point to a recent study by Food Democracy Now! a grassroots organizations dedicated to sustainability which says some of the fields General Mills buys oats from used herbicides suspected of hurting bee populations.
