Israel Carries Out Second Round of Strikes on Gaza

A post for the Palestinian resistance was targeted with machine guns, while apache helicopters flew overhead, the Israeli army said in a report.

Palestinians run for cover as smoke rises following an Israeli air strike on a Hamas post, in the northernGaza Strip on February 6, 2017.

Earlier on Monday morning, unknown militants fired two makeshift rockets from northeast Gaza into southern Israel.

Israeli air strikes continued Monday on the Gaza Strip with jets firing missiles at open areas east of Gaza and tanks firing shells near Shajaiyeh, northern Gaza, according to local sources.

The attacks came after the Israeli army claimed that a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit an open terrain in the Eshkol regional council. "This Israeli escalation in Gaza is risky and must be stopped", spokesman Fawzy Barhum told AFP.

Interior Secretary Nominee on Climate Change: 'I Don't Believe It's a Hoax'
Sanders cut him off there, saying, "Well, actually, there's not a whole lot of debate now". Zinke said climate change isn't a hoax, but from there, his answer got muddier.

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008.

Dawood Shihab, a spokesman for the Islamic Jihad, said that "Israel will be fully responsible for the consequences of its military aggression on the Gaza Strip today". "The IDF will continue to defend Israeli civilians against the threats emanating from Hamas' Gaza".

On two occasions since the summer, Israeli forces carried out waves of dozens of strikes against Gaza in retaliation for rocket attacks, a deterrent method seen as connected to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman's hard-line stance toward Hamas.

Both Shihab and Hamas spokesmen called on the global community to immediately intervene to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and on the Palestinian people. The Israel Defense Forces usually respond with an air strike or targeted attack.

After the devastating conflict of 2014, Israel and Hamas have observed a brittle ceasefire along the largely closed border area.
