University of Alaska warns some students, faculty not to leave US

The statement is in response to President Donald Trump's recent executive order on Muslim immigrants and refugees, which ends Visa issuing to migrants or visitors from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - all predominantly Muslim countries - suspends the US refugee resettlement program for at least 120 days and bars refugees from the United States.

New Mexico State University Chancellor Garrey Curruthers is warning students and staff not to leave the USA if they are from one of the seven countries that fall under President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration.

We recommend that students, faculty, staff or dependents who might be affected refrain from travel outside of the United States until further notice as you may be denied reentry into the country.

According to the Institute of International Education, there are more than 17,000 students from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, the countries affected by the executive order, now studying at American schools.

"The executive order is aimed at new entries into the United States, those not yet in the country, and we believe nothing in this executive order will compel you to leave before the expiration of your status", USC said in the email.

Johnson said staff members from the office are available to talk with concerned students and employees about the changes from the Trump administration.

SUNY's statement did not specify how the executive action could affect SUNY students, but they are reviewing any possible complications for students. There was also confusion over the weekend about how this order affected those with green cards.

University leaders are also working with national groups like Association of American Universities and Association of Public Land Grant Universities. Moreover, I want to reiterate that accessibility, diversity of thought, and the free and open exchange of ideas remain core values of the University of Kansas.

University of Oregon Provost Scott Coltrane announced that the university plans to provide attorneys to any student, staff or faculty approached by immigration officials due to U.S. President Donald Trump's policies.

UVA confirmed more than 60 members of the UVA Community have been directly impacted by the executive order.
