Israel Air Force Deploys Operational Arrow-3 Missile Defense

The Arrow 2 is created to intercept projectiles high and low within the atmosphere. State-owned Israel Military Industries produces the rocket motor for both Arrow interceptors, with Boeing supporting the largely US-funded program with US-based production of the two Arrow missiles.

Israel declared the top tier of its air defence umbrella operational on 18 January, when the first Arrow-3 interceptors were formally handed over to the Israeli Air Force (IAF) in a ceremony.

After years of development and testing, the system is now considered operational, though it will continue to undergo checks and improvements, the ministry said. The new interceptor offers longer-range, higher-altitude (exo-atmospheric) and more precise ballistic missile engagements.

"It is a new era in Israel's multi-layered defense system", said IMDO Director Moshe Patel.

"The missile here, behind me, once sat on my drafting table".

Flu Shots Are Worth It
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots annually for everyone at least 6 months old. So far in NY , doctors are seeing signs of a possible increase in influenza during the December holidays.

In salvo scenarios, Arrow-3 will be able to shoot twice against a single target, assess for battle damage and, if needed, divert to other approaching threats, program officials here say. The as-yet-to be deployed David's Sling is created to intercept medium-range missiles.

The Defence Ministry said the US -funded Arrow 3 system, jointly developed by state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries and USA firm Boeing Co., was handed over the Israeli Air Force.

The Arrow-3 development programme, a joint programme between Israel and the U.S., was co-managed by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and IMDO.

Numerous systems shared by the Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 - notably the radar and command-and-control systems - have also been upgraded, ahead of the Arrow 3's full integration into the air force's arsenal.
