Central Intelligence Agency chief John Brennan has a stern warning for Donald Trump

"Spontaneity is not something that protects national security interests and so therefore when he speaks or when he reacts, just make sure he understands that the implications and impact on the United States could be profound".

Director John Brennan participates in a session at the third annual Intelligence and National Security Summit in Washington, DC, U.S. on September 8, 2016.

"What I do find outrageous is equating intelligence community with Nazi Germany", Brennan said on Sunday.

The president-elect remained behind closed doors in his Manhattan high rise Sunday as his team worked to answer questions about his plans at home and overseas once he's sworn into office on Friday.

Brennan also questioned the message it sends to the world if the president-elect broadcasts he does not have confidence in the United States' own intelligence agencies.

The CIA director, who will likely be replaced by Mr Trump's pick Mike Pompeo, advised the incoming President not to forgive Russian Federation for its recent transgressions and warned him to watch his words and actions.

Trump's lieutenants pushed back hard Sunday in a round of television interviews.

Vice president-elect Mike Pence, meanwhile, denied Sunday the claim, telling "Fox News Sunday", "of course not", when asked.

President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs against China.

Trump has done little to encourage unity in recent days, instead inflaming tensions with his critics through a series of tweets.

"There is no interest in undermining the president-elect", he added.

The 76-year-old Lewis, who has been a civil rights leader for more than half a century, was beaten by police during a march he helped lead in 1965 in Selma, Alabama, drawing attention to hurdles preventing blacks from voting. He encouraged the incoming president to move past Lewis' criticism. "He is going to be, in a few days' time, the most powerful person in the world in terms of sitting on top of the United States government and I think he has to recognize that his words do have impact", CIA Director John Brennan said today on "Fox News Sunday".

Also worrisome, he said, were Trump's hints in recent interviews that he might lift sanctions against Russian Federation imposed last month after their election interference was made clear in a report to President Obama.

During the interview, he would neither confirm nor deny whether the Central Intelligence Agency has information on whether the Trump transition team has had contact with Russian Federation - something the Trump team has denied.

Brennan suggested that Trump had to start looking out for national security, rather than protecting his personal reputation.

But he has hinted that he may lift sanctions imposed on Russian Federation over Moscow's alleged cyberattacks if Russian Federation helps the U.S. fight jihadist groups.

Mr Trump is considered to have underplayed for months the conclusions of the intelligence community that Moscow hacked Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that Obama should "step up" and "call it what it is - it's wrong what is happening, it's wrong how some of these Democrats are treating President-elect Trump". He suggested in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Friday that he'd consider easing the latest sanctions on Russian Federation.

Twice during the interview, the Central Intelligence Agency director stressed that he feels Trump needs to understand that it's "more than being about him and it's about the United States and the national security". "There is no reason for Mr Trump to point fingers at the intelligence community" for a dossier that was compiled by a private spy firm.
