'Man who discovered the Beatles' Allan Williams dies

The band were later driven to Hamburg in Germany in 1960 by Williams and they learned numerous skills that helped them to stardom.

Though Williams was an enduring and influential fixture in Liverpool's music scene for almost 60 years, he is best known to the world as the first manager of The Beatles.

Allan also founded the famous Jacaranda Club on Slater Street, Liverpool.

Allan Williams, the original booking agent and first manager of The Beatles, has died at age 86.

Born in Liverpool on March 17, 1930, Williams opened the Jacaranda, then a coffee bar that featured live music, in 1958, where it was frequented by John Lennon and Stu Sutcliffe, who were then students at Liverpool College of Art, and their bandmate Paul McCartney.

In 1960, he personally drove the band - whose lineup then included John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best - to Hamburg for a formative series of gigs. "All of our thoughts and wishes go to his family and his wife Beryl", a message on the club's Facebook page read.

The officer involved in the incident has been placed on restricted duty pending the outcome of the internal investigation. Crockett acknowledged they had a longer video of the incident but said they wouldn't release it at this time.

A decade and a half later, Williams published a memoir titled The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away.

Allan Williams was the Fab Four's first manager and famously drove them from Liverpool to Hamburg in 1960 where they invented their unique sound.

Sir Paul described Williams in The Beatles Anthology as "a great guy, a really good motivator". But we didn't know we were creating history, that we were creating world history and the Beatles would become world famous.

"It was cramped. The van didn't even have seats; we had to sit on our amplifiers".

Jacaranda - known as "The Jac" - said Williams passing was "one of the saddest days in our history". "Honest condolences to his family at this hard time".
