Dem Files Amendment To Ban Electoral College

"The Electoral College is an antiquated system that was established to prevent citizens from directly electing our nation's president, yet that notion is antithetical to our understanding of democracy".

A petition calling on the electoral college to rebel against Donald Trump and instead elect Hillary Clinton president when the college officially casts their votes on december 19 is now the most popular petition ever to be created on Change.org, a popular site for gathering e-signatures for petitions. The Electoral College system requires that representatives of each state cast ballots to decide who will actually become the new President. The move comes after Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by over two million votes, but lost to Republican Donald Trump in electoral votes. "His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic".

Ms Clinton has 65,250,000 votes compared to the President-elect's 62,686,000 votes, the newspaper reports.

Former Green Party presidential nominee, Dr. Jill Stein, also made an effort to revisit the election results by raising more than $6 million to fund recounts in swing states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and MI.

The presidents are urging business, civic, religious and nonprofit sectors to join them in supporting DACA and undocumented immigrant students.

Donald Trump won the electoral college with 306 votes to Hillary Clinton's 232, but there's been a lot of speculation that maybe, a group of Trump electors will break ranks and vote for Clinton instead, thus making her president.

The petition is titled "Make Hillary Clinton President" and argues that because Ms Clinton won the popular vote she should be made President.

While to some the petition may seem like a desperate effort, some elector's themselves are balking at the thought of having to cast their vote for Trump. A convoluted law passed in 1887 states that if there's a dispute over a state's electoral votes, Congress gets the ultimate say in the matter. After that point, future presidential elections would be awarded to the person who receives the most votes from the American people. It also dismisses Trump as unfit to be the next US Commander in Chief.

More than four million people have signed an online petition calling to abolish the process, which uses 538 nominated electors from across the country to determine the winning Presidential candidate.
