Pelosi or Ryan? House Dems pick sides in leader fight

"Having reviewed the strategy and vision of candidates for Democratic leader I am proud to support Tim Ryan of Ohio".

Ryan, an Ohio Democrat, announced plans earlier this month to challenge Pelosi, the California Democrat who served four years as speaker before Republicans won back the House in 2011.

When House Democrats vote for minority leader November 30, challenger Tim Ryan will have the support of fellow Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge.

Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, said she has spent a "considerable amount of time" contemplating both the future of the House Democratic Caucus and the Democratic Party. Pelosi snapped back at Ryan in a recent interview with the Huffington Post, noting that the OH congressman "didn't even carry his district for Hillary Clinton".

Nancy Pelosi received a very visible endorsement Tuesday in her bid to be re-elected House Democratic leader that she'd probably rather not have. "You know what? If you want to come interview me, I'm happy to answer your questions about how we go forward". The Democratic rank and file may no longer be interested in maintaining a structure that has been unable to get them back into power. But heading into Wednesday's election, he's going after Pelosi for not doing enough to reform the caucus structure. "We need that in Congress".

Lufthansa pilots set to strike again on Tuesday, Wednesday
Lufthansa pilots are planning to strike again this week after fresh talks failed to settle their long-running pay dispute. It did not rule out further action in future, however, but said that any strikes would be announced 24 hours in advance.

"Since the proposal addressing the Assistant Democratic Leader position is one that does not apply to this Congress, any further discussion should occur through the Committee on Organization, Standard and Review", Pelosi told her colleagues.

Pelosi is falling short of making the necessary internal changes, Ryan argued Monday, adding that she's just trying to preserve her grip on the party. From her "we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it" defense of Obamacare to her boast that the law would create 400,000 jobs "almost immediately" to her entirely avoidable spat with then-CIA director Leon Panetta, this is a woman with a penchant for stepping in it.

"What are going to tell all the Americans that told us they wanted change?" he said.

"At this time of fear and disillusionment, we owe it to our constituencies to listen and bring a new voice into leadership", he said. As I wrote recently: There's near-universal agreement among House Democrats that she has been a smart, capable and savvy leader who was handed a set of hard political circumstances, as redistricting and Obama's then-unpopularity ushered in the largest Republican majorities in the House of Representatives since the New Deal.
