Lufthansa pilots set to strike again on Tuesday, Wednesday

Lufthansa, the biggest airline of Germany, has cancelled 35 flights on Sunday due to a continued fall-out from a four-day pilot strike.

Lufthansa said it would have a special flight schedule by Monday, 1400 CET (8.00 a.m. ET/1300 GMT), adding it was disappointed by VC's move. It did not rule out further action in future, however, but said that any strikes would be announced 24 hours in advance.

Since the strikes began on Wednesday it has had to cancel 2,863 flights, affecting 345,000 passengers.

The improved deal was made possible through "savings in other areas" such as retirement provisions, said Bettina Volkens, Lufthansa's human resources chief.

Lufthansa pilots are planning to strike again this week after fresh talks failed to settle their long-running pay dispute.

Despite a record profit previous year, the company said it was forced to slash costs to compete with budget rivals such as Ryanair in Europe and the likes of Emirates on long-haul routes.

Led forces cut off Daesh's last supply line in Mosul
Scores of Iraqi male residents are rounded up by the Iraqi army in Gogjali neighborhood, in Mosul, Iraq, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016. Iraqi forces urged them to come out with information of any Islamic State members among them.

The union has been demanding a pay rise of an average of 3.66 percent per year, retroactive for the past five years.

Lufthansa pilots have struck 14 times since 2014. In all cases, passengers should check information about their flights at Lufthansa's website.

The top-selling daily Bild says the strike is costing Lufthansa some 10 million euros ($10.5 million) a day. Each strike day means a loss of about $11 million to the company, Lufthansa has said, saying the damage to customer confidence and to its image was incalculable.

"Many people are looking for alternatives", said Julia Stadler-Damisch, regional director at Kayak.

Shares in Lufthansa, down more than 13 percent this year, slipped lower on Friday as investors fretted over the prospect of stoppages dragging on.
