Lewis Hamilton Powers to Pole at United States Grand Prix

Defending champion Lewis Hamilton drove brilliantly to win yet another United States Grand Prix - his fifth in the country - on Sunday.

Hamilton has scored his 50 wins from 185 races compared to Schumacher with 153 and Prost in 192.

The Briton produced a flawless drive from pole position to finish nearly five seconds ahead of his Mercedes team-mate and championship leader Nico Rosberg. The Red Bull eventually had to settle for third after teammate Max Verstappen's technical issues crucially led to the deployment of the virtual safety auto, with Sebastian Vettel a distant fourth for struggling Ferrari and McLaren's Fernando Alonso finishing an impressive fifth after a late pass on Carlos Sainz Jr.

Rosberg's advantage means he can still take his first title without having to win again this season. "I'm going to focus on this weekend", Rosberg said.

Rosberg had to work harder for his runner-up spot as he was overtaken by Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo at the start.

Rosberg, however, had no intention of taking a conservative route to his maiden championship win.

Bears' anemic offense takes another hit at quarterback
Backup quarterback Brian Hoyer broke his left arm in the second quarter of the game after struggling up to that point. Barkley is just learning the offense after getting called up from the practice squad after Cutler got hurt.

"This race, the whole weekend, Austin, the city, the atmosphere, it's been unbelievable", said Hamilton. "I can't believe that there are only three of us but hopefully onto bigger and better things", Formula One's official website quoted Hamilton as saying.

"It would have been interesting, even if he caught me at the end, to at least have a fight".

"Of course I'm aware of that, it's an obvious calculation which everybody is telling me and it's great.but for me the approach is keep it simple", said Rosberg.

If Rosberg, who now leads by 26 points with three races to go, wins in Mexico and Hamilton has to retire, or fails to score a point, he will take the title. "I have a lot more confidence in [Nico Rosberg's] reliability, it's going well for him I've just got to continue doing my job and hope for the best". Two second-placed finishes and a third place will wrap it up for Rosberg, but a second-placed finish in Austin would have delighted him after his poor start.

Elsewhere, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel qualified fifth and sixth for Ferrari, with Force India's Nico Hulkenberg seventh and Valtteri Bottas of Williams eighth.

Red Bull's Dutch teenager Max Verstappen had a wild race that ended with a gear box problem on lap 32.
