Now, order food, buy movie tickets through Facebook

We all get caught up with work and everyday life, so when it comes time to actually plan something fun, we're often stuck trying to make last-minute plans that may or may not actually play out.

You can easily discover local events on Facebook, it is a great way to find events happening around you and now it's even easier to discover new things to do with friends. In an IRL kind of way.

Users will also be able to get quotes from businesses, buy movie tickets and book appointments at spas and salons, Facebook said in a blog post. The changes are first coming to US users. Facebook said that it would be open to working with other companies in the future.

"This is not a new problem; this is not a new idea", Bosworth told reporters at a roundtable discussion in San Francisco last week.

So the social network wants to change that.

The new features involve a host of brand partners including event sales services like Ticketmaster, Eventbrite and Fandango as well as smaller start-ups like Delivery.com, Slice, HomeAdvisor, MyTime and others. With the new Get Quote and Request Time call-to-action buttons, when a person takes an action on your page, like asking when they can schedule an appointment, a Messenger thread is automatically created between your business and that person. Customer service issues that fall beyond the remit of the restaurant (payment issues, for example), will still be handled by Delivery.com.

Former Alberta premier Jim Prentice dies in plane crash
Now team of investigators from the Transportation Safety Board are on their way to the scene of the crash near Kelowna. Current Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said Prentice deeply loved Alberta and said she benefited from his advice.

Facebook is relying on partnerships with third parties to support the new features rolled out Wednesday. According to Facebook, when you write a post looking for advice on local places or services, you'll have the opportunity to turn on Recommendations for that post. The comments left by their friends are then be mapped out and saved in one place. The organizations are encouraged to use Facebook Messenger to follow-up and confirm appointments.

Engadget reports that the new feature is intended for use not just with restaurants, but with a range of businesses ...

Needless to say, as the platform offers its users more things to do and more facilities to make use of, user engagement is going to skyrocket.

You can tap on your map to see a full-screen view of the places your friends tagged, similar what you might see on Yelp.

The updates build on other recent efforts around events and commerce.

Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) recently launched an all new app that's exclusively dedicated to events.
