Miss America has first out contestant

The competition began in 1921 as a beauty competition on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

Shields, who succeeded the 2016 Miss America victor, Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell, had some stiff competition at this year's pageant.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Alicia Cooper, a 22-year-old from Clark County, Washington, was third runner up Sunday night in the Miss America pageant.

Savvy wowed judges during the talent portion of the competition, when she danced a jazz routine to "They Just Keep Moving the Line" from the NBC musical series Smash.

During a press conference after the ceremony, Ms. Shields thanked her family and fans.

This year's pageant stood out for including the first-ever openly homosexual contestant, Erin O'Flaherty (Miss Missouri).

Savvy Shields, 21, wore an elegant strapless black evening gown as she accepted the crown from the 2016 victor, Betty Cantrell of Georgia.

The second runner-up was Miss New York Camille Sims.

The competition kicked off with the swimsuit round before the women strutted their stuff in evening gowns.

Corbyn plans Labour 'organising academies' to hone activists' campaigning skills
He said: "Don't talk to me about the independence of the liberal press like the Guardian; they are as bad as some of the others". Mr Smith will add: "We are the party of Jeremy Corbyn and Tony Blair - not the Party of Jeremy Corbyn or Tony Blair".

But there's a lot more to know about Savvy other than the fact that she looks unbelievable in a crown.

Miss South Carolina Rachel Wyatt was the night's first runner-up.

Donald Trump used to own the Miss Universe contest, and we know his views pretty well.

"And with Shields and a Guardian, Atlantic City will be safe for another year!" Her platform, according to USA Today, promotes the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Trevor Project-a crisis prevention hotline for at-risk youth.

The competition was hosted by The Bachelor host Chris Harrison and sportscaster Sage Steele.

Olympian Gabby Douglas, singer Ciara, and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban were the celebrity judges.

During the question and answer section, she displayed the utmost diplomacy when asked about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
