Chibok Schoolgirls Seen in "Proof of Life" Video

Chibok Schoolgirls Seen in

On Sunday, Ahmed Saldika, a Nigerian journalist with Boko Haram contacts posted the video on Twitter. Unfortunately, the kidnapped Chibok girls aren't the only children whose lives have been upended by the group. One of the girls, who identified as Maida Yakubu, said on the video: "To our parents - please be patient", reported The Guardian.

Some girls escaped in the melee but parents of those still missing accused former President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's then leader, of not doing enough to find their daughters, whose disappearance sparked a global campaign #bringbackourgirls.

"We are not happy living here", the girl said in the video.

But officials say they don't know who to negotiate with.

In a statement released on Sunday, Nigeria's defense spokesman General Rabe Abubakar said that the military was studying the video to see if the girls died from causes other than airstrikes.

"What we are saying is that the government is committed to do everything to rescue these girls".

In the video, the man conducts a staged interview with one of the students, who says numerous girls have been badly injured in military air strikes.

Council of Europe head visits Turkey in wake of failed coup
Although it's unclear whether prosecutors in Ankara will take on the case, it's a sign of the heated atmospherics surrounding U.S. Critics say Erdogan is using the coup to neutralize his opponents as he strives to set up an executive presidency in the country.

The army believes Salkida and the others "are in possession of information on the conditions and the exact location of schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram".

"Bring Back Our Girls" co-founder Obiageli Ezekwesili, left, console Esther Yakubu, mother of one of the kidnapped school girls, after she saw her daughter in a video release by Boko haram during a briefing in Abuja, Nigeri.

But addressing State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Olonishakin said the Military will not relent in its operations against Boko Haram insurgents despite the group's new video demanding the release of their members in prison.

"What is important to government is the safety and security of these girls".

"Clearly, my status as a Nigerian journalist who has reported extensively, painstakingly and consistently on the Boko Haram menace in the country since 2006 is an open book known to Nigerians and the worldwide community", he said.

Wakil also said that she was available to speak to the military and said she received the news of her being a wanted person "with rude shock", since she had previously assisted the military in their efforts to retrieve the girls, in an interview with Premium Times on Monday.
