People are NOT happy with the new version of Top Gear

The makers of BBC 's Top Gear may not have had the reaction they were hoping for to the show's first episode since the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Its former presenters Clarkson, May and Hammond have a new motoring show on Amazon's internet TV streaming service coming out later this year (16).

Viewers were quick to criticise the motoring show on social media, with numerous comments referring to Evans' "shouty" and "too excitable" hosting style. Furthermore, many zeroed in on the chemistry (or rather lack-of) between Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc that really fell flat.

So what did the TV critics make of the show's first outing?

"#ChrisEvans please stop shouting your screeching is hurting my ears #TopGear", one viewer wrote. Les Dawson certainly got there before Chris Evans.

Meanwhile, others said Evans was too "shouty" and trying too hard. A poor man's Clarkson at best.

The BBC highlighted the fact that it gained viewers during the hour-long broadcast.

Yeah Top Gear wasn't great.

Eddie Jordan, Sabine Schmitz, Rory Reid and Chris Harris will also contribute to the show.

Top Gear continues next Sunday at 8pm on BBC Two.

In 2010, Clarkson and co raced three-wheeled Reliants in a memorable race where the cars kept tipping over, and the threesome also went to Blackpool to turn the famous lights on.

However, the show started with just a taster of the action before heading to showcase a brand new segment.

Top Gear returned to television with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc at the helm. Did the new presenters pull it off?

But after months of sneak previews of challenges and rumours about the presenters not getting along, it is finally back on our screens.

Matt, who is the first non-British host in the programme's 39-year history, went for a spin through the Moroccan desert in an Ariel Nomad. Also they didn't roll the robin reliant over.
