Demetrious Johnson beats Henry Cejudo to defend flyweight title

If Cejudo is successful, he would be the first person to have won Olympic gold and a UFC title.

The news was announced at the post-fight conference.

"I want to see how good Demetrious Johnson is and how far he can take it".

The Conor McGregor retirement saga and the return of Jon Jones somewhat overshadowed Demetrious Johnson's apparent toughest title defence to date in the build up to UFC 197, but "Mighty Mouse" did what he does best by making short work of Olympic gold medallist Henry Cejudo. Referee John McCarthy stopped the fight after Cejudo fell to the floor and covered up after absorbing knees to the body in the clinch. Johnson landed a nice knee along the cage that made Cejudo wince, then and elbow and another shot on the break that stunned Cejudo.

Cejudo pressured the champion, but was unable to mount an effective offense.

Of course, the most important adjustment was a no-brainer for Vigneault and that was re-inserting a healthy Lundqvist back in net. The game starts at 7 p.m. "Good feeling to go home now, and then we get an opportunity to play at home", Lundqvist said.

"No game plan", he said. Johnson had never faced a grappler of the level of "The Messenger" but it was clear after the first grappling exchange that Cejudo's perceived advantage was non-existent. "I come in here and just fight".

"Once I got him off balance I threw the left knee to liver and I heard him go "urgghh" and I was like 'it's over, I'm not fucking backing up - it's on let's go'". The Arizona native scored one takedown, an inside leg trip that drew a response from the crowd, but Johnson quickly kicked him off and jumped back to his feet.

"I am the best pound for pound fighter in the world and I'll continue to prove it", Johnson said.

Johnson earned his eighth successful title defense, moving into a tie for third on the all-time list behind only Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre.
