ISIS claims downing of Syrian regime jet near Damascus

The Islamic State militant group claimed on Friday it has captured the pilot of a warplane crashed southeast of Damascus, the SITE Intelligence Group quoted the group's Amaq news agency as saying.

In the released video, one of the militants stamps on the two-starred flag of the Syrian government emblazoned on the wreckage.

Citing a Syrian military source, Russian news agency Interfax said the plane belonged to the Syrian Air Force and crashed because of a technical fault.

The plane crashed southeast of Damascus airport, the British-based monitoring group said, after flying over territory controlled by Islamic State.

Amidst the plane's shattered wings and engines, fighters are seen collecting parts of the jet.

Amaq gave the pilot's name as Azzam Eid, from Hama.

Cech acknowledges mistake, but insists Arsenal will keep fighting
The 1-1 home draw with the Eagles was a second straight game without a win at this crucial stage of the season. Yannick Bolasie struck late for Crystal Palace to secure a draw in a match which Arsenal completely dominated.

Earlier on Friday, ISIS said a Syrian warplane had been shot down, but did not specifically claim responsibility.

The wider province of Kilis borders areas in Syria that are hotly contested by Syrian anti-government rebels, Kurdish factions, and Islamic State militants.

The pilot's fate is unknown. The ceasefire agreement, engineered by the United States and Russian Federation, was meant to facilitate an ongoing round of talks under the auspices of the United Nations between the Syrian government and internationally-sanctioned opposition groups.

The claim appeared to be at least partially corroborated by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is opposed to both ISIS and the Syrian regime.

The opposition High Negotiations Committee pulled out of formal, though not "technical" talks, earlier this week, as it accused President Bashar Assad's government of violating the cease-fire and hampering the flow of aid to besieged areas.

Two activist-operated media outlets, the Syrian Revolution Network and Azaz Media center, say at least seven people were killed.
