Twitter tears into referee Jon Moss after Leicester's last-minute penalty equaliser

Twitter tears into referee Jon Moss after Leicester's last-minute penalty equaliser

England striker Jamie Vardy, who had given Leicester the lead with his 22nd league goal of the season, was controversially sent off by Jonathan Moss for what the referee ruled a deliberate dive in the box early in the second half as the forward tried to claim a penalty.

"Until that whistle blows, we'll fight and we'll try and get as many points as we can and it might turn out a massive point for us", said Simpson, although he admitted he was crestfallen as Aaron Cresswell put West Ham 2-1 up late on.

There was another twist to come, though, as Moss pointed to the spot at the other end after ruling Carroll had taken down Jeffrey Schlupp and Ulloa held his nerve to equalise and send the Leicester faithful into raptures.

Second-placed Tottenham will close the gap to five points if they beat Stoke on Monday.

The Hammers are coming off a 2-1 loss in the FA Cup against Manchester United, and with four straight Premier League draws before that, West Ham may have forgotten what it's like to win a game. It's eight points now we've dropped.

Leicester had been on a serene march to a first league title in its 132-year history until this game of divisive refereeing and late drama. The Italian did not deny it, replying: 'I don't want to speak about referees.

What's more surprising is that the title race isn't more open, given the collapse of defending champion Chelsea and Manchester rivals City and United struggling for consistency throughout the season.

Newcastle United vs Sunderland Preview: The biggest Tyne Wear derby ever?
Elliot, 29, added: "We played well, looked disciplined and I thought we had a better shape about us". The North East derby - it's what matters most to Newcastle and Sunderland fans.

"And then after, the sending-off changed the match".

The Vardy party ended early on Sunday.

At Dean Court, goals from Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge helped Liverpool to a comfortable 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

Leicester has already secured its place in European soccer's elite competition for the first time and there's already a party atmosphere at the King Power as the team edges closer to Premier League glory.

West Ham United's Andy Carroll celebrates scoring his side's second goal of the game from a penalty during the Barclays Premier League match at the King Power Stadium, Leicester.

Slaven Bilic replaced Pedro Obiang with Carroll - fresh from his hat-trick against Arsenal last week - in search of an equaliser and the visitors' task was given a boost as Vardy was dismissed 10 minutes into the second period. Jamie Vardy put Leicester in front after 18 minutes, firing home from N'Golo Kante pass.

It was the first goal Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel had conceded in 574 minutes and he was beaten again two minutes later. The England striker will be suspended for next Sunday's home clash with Swansea but could face an additional ban if the incident is included in the referee's report and he is hit with a misconduct charge.
