Brie Larson 'honoured' mother with role

Brie Larson 'honoured' mother with role

Brie Larson accepts the award for best actress in a leading role for “Room” at the Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Larson who won an Oscar on Monday for her portrayal of a kidnapped mother in the film, Room, appears to have had a failed attempt at becoming a teen pop star in 2005. The actress once said that her stage name was inspired by an American do she has as a child, which was called Kristen Larson. The Atlantic's Sophie Gilbert praised Larson's performance for being "restrained but tightly coiled, practical and maternal, but also unpredictable".

Following her Best Actress win at yesterday's Oscar Awards, Brie Larson used her big moment to address the ongoing issue of sexism in Hollywood.

After four previous misses, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar for his grunting, gruff performance in "The Revenant".

In the clip, Donoghue reveals that she knew right away "Room" would make a terrific film, so she began writing a screenplay before the book was even published.

In a statement, Larson expressed her gratitude to the fans for going to the theaters and seeing their films.

She made sure to give a special thanks to her adorable 9-year-old co-star, Jacob Tremblay, for being her "partner through this in every way possible".

It has taken the acclaimed actress 20 years to become an overnight star.

The film tells the story of Joy "Ma" Newsome and her young son enduring years of captivity, as told through the eyes of five-year-old Jack, played by Tremblay.

"Thank you first to the Academy".

"This time a year ago I was still trying to figure out who I was, " Brie said as she couldn't stop smiling.

"If I see other actresses I'm always asking, 'When did you burn your denim mini-skirt?'"

At least this year we had three movies with female leads in the running for Best Picture (Room, Brooklyn, and Mad Max: Fury Road) but you could also argue they were never major contenders for the win.
