"Amy" wins Oscar for best documentary

Watch the trailer for the acclaimed Amy Winehouse documentary, AMY.

"Amy", a documentary about the musical genius and drug-and-alcohol fueled death of jazz singer Amy Winehouse, won the Oscar for best documentary on Sunday.

Director Asif Kapadia, accepting the golden statuette, said that "Amy" strived to show the truth behind the soul singer who died in 2011 at age 27.

The filmmaking duo have lined up another divisive subject for their next doc, one who might add his own voice to any objection over his portrayal: Diego Maradona.

Mitch Winehouse tells a different story.

Speaking to Gigwise about Amy, the film's editor Chris King told Gigwise: "She had a circle of very, very close friends, who had basically vowed to never speak to the media after the way she was treated".

BEST: Louis C.K. took a light-hearted jab at documentary filmmakers as he presented the Oscar for best documentary feature. Just Asif Kapadia. That is what this is all about...Asif.

In their speech, Kapadia and Gay-Rees said that their film showed "the world who she [Amy Winehouse] really was: a woman that was amusing, intelligent, witty".

Many of his followers disagreed with him, however, with some arguing that it was not a negative portrayal at all and that the win was a positive victory for Amy's legacy.

Shortly after, Mitch took to Twitter to slam Kapadia once again.

"This film is all about Amy, showing the world who she really was. We will fix this".
