'Gods of Egypt' can't top 'Deadpool' at weekend box office

'Gods of Egypt' can't top 'Deadpool' at weekend box office

It has a running sales total of 285.6 million dollars over three weeks.

Gods of Egypt, the swords-and-sandals epic starring Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, did the best, but it only brought it an estimated $14 million on a $140 million budget.

Holdovers "Kung Fu Panda 3" and "Risen" rounded out the top five, earning $9 million and $7 million, respectively.

The other two newcomers at the box office, the Matthew Vaughn-produced Eddie the Eagle and indie crime-thriller Triple 9, also failed to impress, although they are much smaller films. But the Open Road film looks to be a little slower out of the gate than expected, with a weekend gross of $6.1 million that notches it at sixth place for the weekend. It's a bad start for a movie Lionsgate was hoping would at least take in $25 million to $27 million this weekend. Adding that figure to its just as impressive global numbers, and The Force Awakens is now sitting on all-time third highest grossing total of $2.048 billion.

The foul-mouthed assassin made quick work of new release "Gods of Egypt", the whitewashed period piece that placed second in the weekend's box-office race. The film is projected to earn around $31 million over the weekend, down from $56 million the weekend before. The biggest ever is The Passion of the Christ, which took in $370 million domestically.

So she has firsthand experience, whereas most people don't have that type of experience. Clinton asked. "I've got news for the Republicans, America never stopped being great".

For Eddie the Eagle this weekend's results were, more-or-less, right on target. Second is American Sniper, which dominated January 2015 and found $350 million at the domestic box office. While it was the most critically-loved of the new releases this week (73% on RT), it had a relatively limited audience when you consider its slightly more obscure subject matter and the fact that Hugh Jackman has a mixed record for opening films that aren't part of the X-Men franchise.

In its 2nd weekend, The Witch fell 43-M to $5-M for a domestic take of $16.6-M. It didn't help that the film had mixed reviews, with a RT score of 55%.

That revenue was generated from 3,117 theatres, which averages about $4,500 per location.

Despite trailing last week's mark by 44%, "Deadpool" had no trouble scoring a third straight victory at the weekend box office.
