JNU row: MHA seeks report from police on Patiala court incident

Ten student organisations owing allegiance to different political parties on Wednesday pledged support to JNUSU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested on a sedition charge.

The court had said that the security of Kanhaiya Kumar and those present in the court room should be 100 percent fool proof, indicating that if Delhi Police can't do it, then it may seek other options.

Earlier, the Supreme Court condemned the Monday's attack on journalists in the Patiala House Court Complex, adding that the issue of security in the court premises has to be looked into.

Wednesday's remand hearing was temporarily adjourned as the Supreme Court rushed a team of commissioners to investigate reports that Kumar had been beaten up inside the Patiala courthouse in New Delhi.

Kumar was detained following a recent police crackdown at the prestigious university, where a group of people chanted anti-government slogans at an event marking the 2013 execution of a Kashmiri convicted for his role in a 2001 attack on India's parliament.

A doctor from the Patiala House courts dispensary was summoned for the JNU student leader's medical.

But students in New Hampshire say that integrity and cutting through "Wall Street greed" are bigger issues than gender alone. Clinton gained seven points of support from Democratic voters while Sanders lost 6 points.

"We have adequate evidence against him (Kumar)".

"We never called police, we just cooperated with it. The permission granted to them to enter was not an anti-student move", the VC had said. He was sent to three days' police custody on Friday although he denied raising the anti-India slogans.

Meanwhile, journalists took out a procession today against the violence committed by lawyers (or people dressed like advocates) against them in Patiala House.

There were chaotic scenes outside the court, with television footage showing lawyers pushing and shoving, some of them carrying Indian flags, and reports of stones being thrown at journalists.

The bench also directed the police to take appropriate measures to maintain the law and order situation in accordance with the law and clarified that the said directions were for the proceedings of the day only. The home minister, Rajnath Singh, tweeted that anyone shouting anti-India slogans "will not be tolerated or spared", and Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani told reporters that "the nation can never tolerate an insult to Mother India".
